The Australian Olympic Committee will conduct stringent heart checks on the entire London-bound team following this week’s sudden and tragic death of Norwegian swimmer Alexander Dale Oen from a heart attack at high altitude training in Arizona.

Supersport.com reports that Aussie team medical director Dr Peter Baquie said more than two-thirds of the 400-strong squad had already undergone extensive cardiovascular screening including electrocardiograms.

Dr Baquie said family history checks and routine medical examinations were conducted ahead of the 2008 Beijing games.

Team members were on hand in Sydney this morning to unveil the 2012 Australian Olympic Team Opening Ceremony uniform during Sydney Fashion Week.

Olympic gold medallist Libby Trickett was part of the athletes’ committee who developed the brief and worked with the Official Suppliers, Sportscraft and Volley, to produce the uniform.

“We wanted something comfortable, relaxed, something iconically Australian but obviously something that suits athletes of all different shapes and sizes as well and it is just brilliant what they have been able to create for us,” Trickett, who will compete at her third Games told the AOC’s website.
