Clashes between supporters of the embattled Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Abdulfatai Oyesanya and councillors seeking his impeachment, erupted this morning in the Council’s Secretariat with dangerous weapons freely used.
P.M.NEWS learnt that Oyesanya arrived the council early today with his supporters and hell was let loose when he learnt that he might be impeached by the council’s legislative arm, led by the speaker, Taiwo.
The pandemonium, which last for about an hour, sent residents scampering for safety as arrows flew in all directions.
It was learnt that the chairman is accused of high handedness, nepotism and of sacking workers employed by the immediate past council chairman, Engineer Adekunle Soname.
“When he came in, he sacked all those who worked for the former chairman. He provided an office for his son and another office for his daughter,” a council staff told our correspondent on condition of anonymity.
“If you don’t belong to his group known as OYESCO, then he sacks you or discriminates against you. We want him to go,” he added.
At the time of filing this report, the Oba of Ikosi, Olukosi of Ikosi, was at the Secretariat holding a meeting with the warrying parties to resolve the crisis.
Our correspondent was allowed to speak with Oyesanya who was in a closed door meeting with Ikosi Oba and other stakeholders.
Ikosi is one of the major towns in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
