An Abuja Upper Area Court on Thursday ordered that a 21-year-old, Musa Usman, of Kaga Estate, Nasarawa State, be remanded in prison for alleged attempt to commit rape and assault.

Police prosecutor Francis Udofia told the court that the crime was reported on April 25 by Mr. L. Wadak, a navy officer residing at Navy Estate, Karshi, Abuja.

Udofia said the accused forced one Fatima Adamu of Papalada village in Nasarawa, a milk seller, to have sexual intercourse with him.

He said the accused took Adamu to a nearby uncompleted building and forcibly removed her pant in an attempt to have sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecutor said that in the process, two labourers caught him and handed him over to the navy officer who took him to the police station.

According to the prosecutor, the attempt to commit rape and assault contravened sections 56 and 265 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Judge Umar Kagarko ordered that the accused be remanded in Keffi Prison and adjourned the case to May 9 for further hearing.
