U.S Scholarship For Youths

Talented Nigerian youths, gifted with soccer skills, stand a chance of winning scholarships to American universities. The initiative to be driven under the MTN Football Scholar, will focus on football and academics.

It seeks to actualize the positive aspirations of Nigerian youths for international sports and academics.

The selection process to pick the candidates would commence in May and is expected to be carried in seven cities, beginning concurrently with Port Harcourt and Enugu on the 4th and the 5th of May. Two other cities, Akure and Benin would follow on the 7th and 8th,May while the preliminary tryouts for Ilorin and Abuja are slated for 10th-11th May .

The tryouts will be concluded in Lagos over a three-day period starting from 13th-15th May.

Amongst the criteria required to be enlisted for the program, candidates, who must be males of Nigerian citizenship, between the ages of 15-18 years, must be currently enrolled in either SS2, SS3, or in the alternative, must have graduated from secondary school by 2011.

To ensure that the best of the candidates emerge, a team of Nigeria’s best coaches have been assembled, amongst them are Joe Erico, Olu Lagunju, Taju Disu and Emmanuel Tetteh.This is in addition to some American coaches that are expected to be part of the program.
