Supporters and members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on Saturday in Benin defied the early morning rain to attend the party’s campaign for Edo governorship election.
Not even the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, Governor Oshiomhole’s private secretary two days ago, tempered the rain soaked party carnival.
The campaign, which took place at the Museum Ground, was coordinated by Chief Tom Ikimi, a national leader of the party. The party members waived brooms — the party symbol — and chanted songs to mobilise the electorate to vote for the party in the July 14 election.
The ACN candidate , Governor Adams Oshiomhole, and his running mate, Dr Pius Odubu, spoke about the party’s achievements in the state. They urged the people to ask the previous state governments what their achievements were to warrant their votes.Oshiomhole, who thanked the people for their steadfastness and support for his administration, assured them that the party would do more if voted into power.
“We will do even more for you if you give us your mandate again because we are your servants,” he said.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, several musicians, including the legendary highlife musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo, entertained the gathering.
