5 Kids, 23 Others Die In Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Thursday that 28 people died in 59 road accidents recorded in Kogi in April.

The State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Michael Olapade, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Lokoja, said that five children were among the dead.

He said the victims were among the 443 passengers involved in the accidents, adding that the crashes happened in different parts of the state.

Olapade added that the dead included 16 males and seven females while 176 others sustained various degree of injuries.

The Sector Commander who identified over speeding, dangerous driving, break failure and human errors as factors responsible for the crashes, warned motorists to always drive with caution.

Olapade disclosed that 990 motorists and Okada riders were also arrested for various traffic offences during the period.

He said that out of the number, 665 were made to pay fines and given public enlightenment on the need to be safety conscious.
