Soccer fan shot dead in Turkey

One man was shot dead and 36 people were hurt in violent scenes which followed Galatasaray’s Turkish title triumph, press reports said on Sunday.

Kemal Ayci, 40, died after being shot in the head by a stray bullet fired into the air in the town of Giresun by an unidentified Galatasaray fan celebrating the title which was secured by a 0-0 draw with Fenerbahce, according to the Anatolian news agency.

In Istanbul, meanwhile, fights between fans and police caused 36 injuries and led to 59 arrests, 12 of whom were children.

Nine police vehicles, six ambulances, a fire engine and 85 buses were also damaged in the violence.
