3 Brothers Arraigned Over Oba Onikoyi’s Property
The police at Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested Prince Tajudeen Onikoyi, 72, Bolaji Onikoyi, 47, Abani Onikoyi, 45, and Idowu Johnson, 44, for allegedly damaging property and disrupting work on a plot of land belonging to Oba Fafunwa Onikoyi.
They were docked at an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a three-count charge of felony to wit, wilful damage of property and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.
The police prosecutor alleged in charge number J/18/2012 that the accused persons were arrested following a complaint lodged by Oba Fafunwa Onikoyi that the accused persons in May 2012 invaded his plot of land under construction at Parkview area of Ikoyi, Lagos damaged the fence, store and chased away all the workers who were working on the land.
The police prosecutor Inspector Gboyega Oludare said the accused persons contravened Sections 337, 166(1) (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. B. A. Sonuga, admitted them on bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum, who must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State government. She adjourned the matter till 22 May 2012 for mention.
When the defendants could not perfect their bail conditions before the court closed for the day, they were remanded Ikoyi Prison.
