After witnessing the shoddy manner in which former Super Eagles’ striker, Rashidi Yekini was buried after his sudden demise about 10 days ago, one-time Eagles’ defender, Chidi Nawnu, has told those charged with the management of sports in Nigeria to honour retired Super Eagles players while they are still alive.

Nwanu who played as a central defender for the Super Eagles made this disclosure while speaking today on Brilafm.

The former Anderletch F.C of Belgium player opined that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, do not have to wait till when a retired player dies before they grant him the honour he deserves while still alive.

“I think it is a waste of time for those at the NFF to come out now and decide that they want honour Yekini after he had passed on. What are they waiting for while he was still alive? Are they waiting for him to die before they give him the honour he deserves?

“They should start doing what is done all over the world by giving we, retired players the honour we deserve while we are still alive,” said Nwanu, who was part of the Super Eagles team to the 1994 World Cup in USA.
