I’ve Silenced My Critics —Babalola
Winner of the men’s singles at the just concluded Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Open, Abdulmumini Babalola says he has silenced his critics by winning the championship.
Speaking with P.M.Sports shortly after his 6-3, 6-2 final victory over Shehu Lawal, Babalola said he has more to offer tennis in the country as he just proved his competence with the victory.
He said: “It was another opportunity to prove my doubters wrong as many thought that Babalola can no longer win the CBN Open because I had not won for sometime.”
“I was confident going into the game not because my compatriot is a bad player, but because I’ve been playing very well throughout and the fact that I had been training very hard for this tournament; being the first event for us in Nigeria this year” Babalola concluded.
Meanwhile, current champion in the female category, Abinu Fatimah defeated Sarah Adegoke 6-4, 6-3 in the final, and maintained that though she had a nervy start, she recovered in good time to control the game.
Abinu also said her experience was another deciding factor in the title decider, as her opponent was up to the task.
According to her: “We were both nervous at the start, but I was confident I was going to come out victorious.
“My opponent is a great player for the future and with the way she plays, we’ll have a world champion very soon.”
