Edo state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked the Action Congress of Nigeria’s allegation that it planned to rig the forthcoming governorship polls.
Dan Orbih, the State Chairman of the PDP, denied the allegation while addressing newsmen on Monday in Benin. There is no plan by PDP to “manipulate and mutilate the voters’ register with a view to rigging the election,”Orbih said.
He said that Chief Anenih had never met with Attahiru Jega, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, since Jega was appointed.
He also denied the accusation that the PDP was preparing to recruit people from the neigbouring states as thugs to assist it in rigging the election, and called on the ACN candidate to formally withdraw from the election in favour of its candidate, retired Gen.Charles Airhiavbere.
The PDP Chairman also called on political parties taking part in the election to ensure that their agents were present in all registration centres during the registration of voters. This, he said, was necessary to ensure a credible election.Orbih also called on the ACN to subject itself to the rules governing the electoral process, saying that the PDP in the state had confidence in the person of Prof. Attahiru Jega. It, however, advised Jega to disregard any intimidation from the Edo State Government in the execution of his duties as the umpire in the forth coming election.
