100 Divorcees, Widows Tie The Knot

Kano State government, north central Nigeria, on Tuesday through the state Hisbah Board and the Emirate Council sponsored the marriage ceremony of 100 widows and divorcees.

The programme kicked off the state government’s plan to sponsor the marriage of identified 1,000 widows and divorcees in the state.

The marriage ceremony which was to mark the World Family Day took place at the Kano Central Mosque, beside the Emir’s palace.

Director-General of Hisbah, Alhaji Abba Sa’id Sufi, said the programme was initiated to curb the spate of divorce and widowhood as well as eradicate poverty.

Some of the dignitaries at the marriage ceremony included the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, the SSG Rabiu Suleiman Bichi who performed the prayers.

Commissioners, district heads and religious leaders also attended.
