UNILAG VC To Be Buried 31 May

The remains of Professor Adetokunbo Babatunde Shofoluwe, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos will be laid to rest on Thursday, 31 May, 2012.

A candle light procession attended by varsity dons, non academic and academic staff and students was held at the institution’s Senate building on Tuesday night as part of activities lined up to honour the late VC.

Meanwhile, as preparations are on-going to give Prof Shofoluwe a befitting burial, a source told Campus Square that his family members are not satisfied with what led to his death and are still investigating circumstances.

The source said: “The burial could have been this week, but I guess it was fixed for a later date due to the controversy about how he died.”

The professor was said to have died of a cardiac arrest.

Since the death of the VC at about 1:30 am on Saturday, the atmosphere of the ever lively UNILAG campus has been sombre.

The late Professor Shofoluwe was appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos on 31 January, 2010.

He was born on 15 April, 1950. He is survived by wife and children.

Professor Shofoluwe was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH on Friday following a cardiac arrest, but was said to be getting better when his death was announced the following morning.

The candle light procession organised for him on Tuesday was a tearful event as students and staff of the university wept uncontrollably, describing the deceased as a God-fearing, experienced and highly skilled leader.
