The General Overseer of GoldCity Ministry International, Calabar, Dr. Trinity Ogar, says that the Church has awarded scholarships to 120 indigent students in tertiary institutions across the country since 2010.

Ogar, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Calabar, said that the church had spent more than N3 million on the scholarships.

He said that under the programme, undergraduates received N10, 000 each while post-graduate students received N20, 000 and N30, 000, for Masters and Doctorate degrees, respectively.

He said that the church had also awarded scholarships to 40 secondary schools students in the state and in neighbouring Akwa Ibom, adding that 70 other persons were undergoing computer training in Calabar, under the church’s sponsorship.

According to him, the focus of the scholarship is to help the less-privileged in the society and this is essentially in recognition of the hardship people are going through to acquire education.

Ogar said that the scholarship programme had become an annual event, maintaining that education remained the only legacy the church could bequeath to the next generation.

He said that beneficiaries of the church’s “charity” programmes cut across all Christian denominations, stressing that “it is not only for members of my church. It is open to all humanity but limited to indigent students.”
