Presisident of the Lagos Wushu Kungfu Association, Olusesan Akerele, has rated high the standard of wushu kungfu at the ongoing Lagos State Sports Festival, tagged Ibile 2012.

In a chat with P.M.Sports, Akerele said that the standard of wushu kungfu is high at the games unlike what it used to be at previous games.

“The standard of wushu kunfu is very high at this festival if we consider the great number of athletes that are participating in the sport. A great number of players are participating at the event with many of them competing at this level for the first time,” said Akerele.

He said: “The level of this competition is very high because each Local Government Area and LCDA is allowed to feature players in different categories. This will allow the players to put their strength to test and to showcase their talents.”

However, Akerele appealed to corporate bodies to join the government in supporting wushu kungfu in order for it to take its rightful place at the international stage.

“The corporate organisations have a great part to play because we cannot leave everything to the government. Corporate bodies need to assist the government in supporting the sport so that it can develop in Nigeria.

“Government has other important responsibilities aside from supporting sporting activities. That is why the corporate bodies must not leave sports to the government alone,” concluded Akerele.
