Conductor, 20, Remanded For Cheating
An Upper Area Court in Karu on Tuesday ordered that a 20-year-old conductor, Abdulahi Garba, of Gwadabe Market, Minna, charged with joint act and cheating be remanded in prison.
The prosecutor, Mr. Stephen Eimgeo, told the court that on May 17, one Silim Dogo, of Isba Town in Kaduna State reported the crime to the police.
Eimgeo said that on May 15, the accused allegedly connived with a driver, one Isa Dan Mallam, of the same address with the accused, now at large.
He said that the accused deceitfully and dishonestly induced Dogo to supply him with gravel valued N150, 000 under the pretext that he should follow him to Abuja for his money.
Eimgeo added that when they arrived in Abuja, the accused took him to a restaurant and from there disappeared to an unknown destination only to see him the following day at Kugbo.
According to the prosecutor, the offence of joint act and cheating contravened Sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor prayed the court to remand him for the police to search for the driver.
The Judge, Umar Kagarko, ordered that the accused be remanded in Keffi prison, and adjourned the case to July 4, for further hearing.
