FRSC Commander Warns Staff Over Malpractice

The new Rivers Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, has warned the staff against corruption.

Dr. Olagunju took over from Mrs. Mary Wakawa, who has been deployed from Rivers to Ondo as Sector Commander.

Addressing staff of the commission in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Olagunju urged them to desist from extortion and malpractice in the issuance of driver’s licences and number plates.

The commander warned that staff engaging in the act would be arrested and prosecuted.

He also said that the commission had zero tolerance to staff collecting bribe from road users.

Olagunju said he would set up a special surveillance team, to be headed by himself, to monitor activities of staff in the command.

He said that those “found wanting will be dealt with in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations.

“The operational activities of the command will be re-focused and enhanced. Patrol teams will now be more visible on the highways.

“The command will join other law enforcement agencies to ensure free flow of traffic in Port Harcourt city.”

Olagunju warned motorists and other road users to obey traffic rules and regulations because offenders would be prosecuted .

He said that some traffic offenders could be arraigned before mobile courts where they might be jailed.

Olagunju urged those applying for driver’s licence and new number plates to go to the Drivers Licence Processing Centre instead of using touts.
