Gunmen on Wednesday shot dead a Police Inspector, Sa’idu Aliyu attached to Government House, Sokoto.
The hoodlums shot the policeman at a Mosque opposite the Marina Police barracks in the metropolis shortly after the early morning prayers.
The attackers had similarly shot dead a teenage boy who was sleeping in a shop near the scene of the incident.
The remains of the late policeman and the boy had been deposited at the morgue of the Uthmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
The Police Commissioner in the state, Aliyu Musa confirmed the incident, saying: “I am just about to go the hospital to have a first hand look at the corpses.
“We will continue with our investigations to get to the root of the matter. We will surely apprehend the fleeing gunmen.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that armed mobile policemen have cordoned off the affected area, blocking the road leading to the Marina Police Station.
Similarly, a group of suspected armed robbers attacked the Binji Pharmacy near the Specialist Hospital , Sokoto, at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
The hoodlums were said to have carted away undisclosed amount of money but nobody was injured or killed.
The commissioner said no arrest had been made in the two incidents.
He assured the public that the police would unravel the mystery behind the attacks.
