NOC Gets Olympic Media Rights For N80m, Set To Reap N250m From Deal
Olympic excitement will fill the Nigerian airwaves very soon, as the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, disclosed that it has purchased the media rights for N80m.
Engineer Sani Ndanusa, the NOC President made the disclosure during a Press Conference on the London 2012 Olympics Games Broadcast Rights at the Abuja national stadium on Wednesday.
He stressed that the decision of the NOC to get the Olympic rights is a wise decision that will be of great benefit to Nigerians.
“First of all, I must highlight here that the decision of the NOC to procure the Free to Air broadcast rights of the London Olympic Games is without exaggeration, a very ambitious and ground-breaking event. It will be the first time that a National Olympic Committee is acquiring the broadcast rights within its territory,” Ndanusa said.
The former Minister of Sports further revealed that the official owners of the Broadcast Rights of the Olympic Games is the International Olympic Committee, IOC, which in turn markets the rights to various global and regional organisations of interest.
For Sub-Sahara Africa, the broadcast rights of the London 2012 Olympics Games was purchased by Octagon SA, a global advertising and services network based in South Africa, and the company has concluded arrangements to set up an African Broadcast Centre in London.
He also informed that the NOC purchased the rights from Octagon SA and that an agreement has been made.
Patrick Ukah, the Marketing Chairman of NOC, said the rights, was purchased for N80m and stated further that the Committee is likely to reap about N250m from the sales of the media rights to their various partners in Nigeria.
