GWM’s Workhorse Gets Nose Job
GWM’s Steed also known locally as Wingle and widely regarded as the best and most affordable Chinese truck in Nigeria will benefit from the facelift that was given to more ‘premium’ models last year.
This means that the 2.2-litre single and double cab Workhorse versions no longer have the copy-cat face that was nicked from the VW Magellan SUV concept. Its latest front end is rather generic looking, but unlikely to displease anyone.
While power steering was the only luxury in the previous Workhorse range, all models now also receive air conditioning as standard. As before, power comes from GWM’s 2.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 78kW at 4600rpm and 190Nm between 2400 and 2800rpm.
Not much in the way of sparkle, but then the GWM does provide full one-tonne capability. A concerned dealer enthused: “Consumers are now watching their budgets more closely than ever before due to continuous food and petrol price hikes.
“Farmers, small business owners and entrepreneurs are no exception. We hope to help them work smarter through the Wingle 2.2 single and double cabs – well-priced pick-ups that get the job done.”
