AL–Makura Identifies The Major Causes of Tiv/Fulani Crises

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has revealed that the major problems causing the persistent conflict between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen was largely due to lack of proper boundary demarcation as well as absence of grazing routes

Al-Makura, who disclosed this weekend, in Makurdi during the commissioning of a central Mosque by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, maintained that population explosion and modernisation has also affected grazing routes as people have continued to build on settlements along them.

He suggested that the communities should define grazing areas for the herdsmen so as to put to an the recurring crisis.

The governor who also spoke on the effort to curtail the incessant crisis between Tiv/ Fulani in his state said he has initiated a community-based programme where the people would sit down and resolve their issues amicably, stressing that there has been effective exchange of security information between him and Gabriel Suswam, the governor of Benue State to nip the crisis in the bud.

Governor Almakura also promised to implement the recommendations of the joint committee put together by the two states as soon as soon as it finished its assignment.
