FERMA’s 80-tonne Lagos Asphalt Plant Ready Soon

A multi-million naira, 80-tonne-per-hour asphalt plant, being built by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in Lagos would be ready in four weeks.

The agency’s Executive Director (Engineering Services), Hassan Mohammed, said during a facility tour of the plant located at FERMA Ijora, Lagos office, that the plant would be completed by the end of June.

Mohammed said the project’s contractor has assured the plant’s installation would be completed on schedule, adding that only a few items were left for the facility to come on stream.

According to him, when the plant comes into operation, it would boost, greatly, the agency’s road maintenance efforts in Lagos, with its huge demand for road works.

The engineer explained that road construction and maintenance depended largely on the availability of asphaltic concrete needed for patching and overlay. The completion of the plant, he noted, would go a long way in making FERMA’s job much easier.

Mohammed said the Lagos asphalt plant was one out of seven of such facility currently being installed across the country by the agency. The remaining six are sited in Abuja, Funtua, Gombe, Oshogbo, Akwa-Ibom and Enugu.
