Ronaldo Sure Of Portugal’s Chances

Cristiano Ronaldo says there’s a quiet confidence in the Portugal camp that they can perform well at Euro 2012.

There’s been little hype surrounding the side after Ronaldo and his team-mates were forced into a play-off against Bosnia-Herzegovina to make it to Poland and Ukraine.

But after qualifying from the groups in Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010, Ronaldo feels his side are well place to repeat the feat despite being paired in Group B with Germany and the Netherlands.

Joachim Löw’s men put the Portuguese out of the competition in Austria and Switzerland four years ago while their World Cup exit in South Africa was at the hands of winners Spain.

The other side in the group, Denmark finished ahead of Paulo Bento’s side to qualify for the tournament.

Speaking to Bwin, Ronaldo said: “We know we are in the group of death with Germany, Netherlands and the team who knocked us out (to the playoff) in the qualification phase, which was Denmark.

“Those are going to be some very tough matches but I am confident we will go past the group phase. I know we will not be favourites. Even better” he added.

The 27-year-old plies his trade for Spanish side Real Madrid and unsurprisingly he believes the current World and European champions will be the ones to beat once more.

He added: “I don’t think there will be surprises in this Euro, Spain are very strong and there are teams right behind them which are also very tough so I don’t think there will be any surprises.”
