Muslim group vows to contest 2015 polls
Nigeria’s Muslim Student Society (MSS) said on Sunday that some of its members would be sponsored to contest the 2015 general elections as part of efforts to ensure good governance in the country. A communique issued and signed by the society’s President, Malam Musa Shehu at the end of its review meeting on the perfomance of Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger in the last five years, stated that it was imperative for the society to field candidates in the elections.
“The Muslim Students Society should look inward aimed at sponsoring candidates for political positions in the next dispensation from the pool of its credible human resources,” it said.
It called on the Niger State Government to expand the General Hospitals in Minna, News Bussa, Suleja and Kontagora towns in a bid to improve health care delivery in the state.
It also called on the state government to construct general hospitals in the council headquarters that did not have one.
It called on government to interven in the education sector to halt the decay in the sector following the “geometric increase” in primary and secondary schools student’s enrolment in public schools.
“The tourism sector is a viable tool for economic growth, in this light government should shift from cultural festivals and amusement parks to creating an enabling environment for the sector to strive.
“Shariah implementation should be devoid of political tinkering and the agencies charged with its implementation are well funded and staffed,” it added.
