ACC Marks Anti-Counterfeiting Day

Come 7 June, this year’s edition of the annual World Anti-counterfeiting Day will hold. And as the day approaches, Nigeria’s Anti-Counterfeiting Collaboration, ACC, has concluded plans to celebrate the day with seminars, workshops and talks for stakeholders.

In a statement made available to Showbiz Trends, the not-for-profit organisation stated that the event is targeted at sensitizing stakeholders on the dangers of counterfeiting which constitute a drain pipe to the fortunes of copyright owners.

ACC stated that experts have highlighted that one major snag to the development of intellectual property in Nigeria is counterfeiting. The body submits that Nigeria’s status as a favourable destination for foreign direct investment as well as a place where local creative and innovative talent can flourish is in jeopardy due to the activities of individuals that place no value on intellectual property rights.

Thus, the ACC Nigeria will join millions of other brand owners worldwide in celebrating the World Anti Counterfeiting Day, to increase people’s awareness and understanding about the effect counterfeit on the economy.

Acknowledging the efforts of regulatory agencies such as NAFDAC, SON, NCS, NPF, among others in combating the menace, the ACC stated that the battle is still a far cry from being won.
