Boko Haram admits killing ex-police chief

Nigeria’s militant group, Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the killing of a former deputy police chief in the northern city of Kano and vowed more of such attacks.

“Yesterday God gave us victory and we succeeded in killing a former DIG (deputy inspector general)… in Kano city,” the sect said in an email statement to reporters late Wednesday.

The group also vowed to carry out more of such killings of senior government officials.

“By God’s grace very soon top government officials will have no peace as we will intensify attacks on them wherever they are,” it said.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead Abubakar Saleh Ningi, his driver and a bodyguard in Kano on Tuesday, where Boko Haram has carried out a wave of attacks.

Ningi and other top police officers were relieved of duty in January following coordinated bomb and gun attacks in Kano, northern Nigeria’s largest city and commercial centre, that killed at least 185 people.
