Lekki Toll Collector Sent To Prison

A Lekki Concession Company toll collector, Maria Abdul, 29, has been arrested and sent to prison by the police at Maroko Division, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos State.

Maria, who claimed to hold a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos, and a staff of Lekki Concession Company, operators of the Lekki toll gate, was arrested for allegedly stealing her employerís N637,330.
The accused was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on one count charge of stealing.
The police stated in the charge sheet P/22/2012 that Maria was arrested following a complaint by the management of her company that between 1 and 29 February, 2012, while in the employ of Lekki Concession Company as a supervisor on toll collection, she stole the sum of N637,330, property of LCC.
They claimed that the theft was uncovered during the toll collection declaration report scrutiny and when the accused was confronted about the missing money, she could not give any satisfactory account.
The offence, according to the police prosecutor, Inspector F. Inah, is contrary to and punishable under Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her in the open court. Subsequently, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. C. J. Momodu admitted her on bail in the sum of N500,000 with a surety in like sum who must show proof of tax payment to Lagos State government.
She adjourned the matter till 22 June, 2012 for mention.
When Maria could not perfect her bail conditions, she was remanded in Kirikiri Prison.
