Mapoly Students Happy About UNILAG Name Change

The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) have expressed satisfaction over President Goodluck Ebele Jonathanís decision to rename the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Moshood Abiola University (MAU).
In his broadcast speech during the Democracy Day celebration on 29 May, President Jonathan had said: ìSince it happens to be that the late MKO Abiola was a great man in the country and he has helped Nigerians to fight many battles, I decided to name a University after him.íí
Though the decision was greeted with protests from UNILAG students and staff, their counterparts in MAPOLY see it as a welcome development.
Speaking with Campus Square, a student of MAPOLY, Cynthia Okorocha disclosed that ìwhen we heard that UNILAG has been changed to Moshood Abiola University, we were very happy.
She further claimed that the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun as well as other staff of MAPOLY were happy about the development.
Campus Square gathered that shortly after the Presidentís announcement, students of MAPOLY were addressed by their Rector, Tokunbo Fowode, Bursar and Registrar. They were happy to share the same name with an institution of UNILAGís calibre.
A lecturer at the Mass Communication Department of the institution, Wasiu Tejuosho, is of the opinion that his students will benefit more now that they share the same name with UNILAG.
