The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has berated the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji and other members for calling on the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, to resign following the crash of a Dana plane on Sunday in Lagos.
The party in a statement signed by Publicity Secretary, Taofeek Gani, described the call by the lawmakers as one made in bad faith and playing politics with a very serious national calamity.
The party wondered why the lawmakers, especially the Speaker, did not call for the resignation of Governor Babatunde Fashola or his Commissioner for Transportation whenever accidents occurred involving BRT buses, ferry boats or even during the mismanaged doctors strike that led to the death of several people in the state.
“This hypocritical and callous style of governance in the state is no more popular. Lagosians know the number of motorists and pedestrians BRT buses have killed as a result of carelessness of the drivers and for which nobody in the government was punished,” he noted.
The party admonished the Speaker to watch his utterances on national issues because such are presumably done on behalf of Lagosians.
“He should lead by example by resigning as the Speaker of the House to allow proper adjudication over the N7 billion criminal charge against him,” he stated.
The party agreed that the direct and remote causes of the crash must be probed, adding that any official found culpable should be brought to book irrespective of social status.
