Lawmaker Mourns Dead NUC Members

The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education has sent a message of condolence to the National University Commission, NUC, over the loss of some of its staff in the Dana Air plane crash at Iju Ishaga in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State.

One hundred and fifty three passengers and six crew members on board the plane as well as 10 residents on ground perished in the crash.

Among NUC staff who died in the crash was the husband of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Professor Onwuliri.

The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Wahab Alawiye-King, described the death of Onwuliri as a monumental loss not only to the education sector but also to the country as a whole.

In a message to the NUC, Alawiye-King stated: “We commiserate with you on this monumental loss and we pray to God to grant the deceased persons eternal rest while urging God to give the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the huge loss.”

According to him, the crash called for a sober reflection, adding that there was need to put things right in the country.

“We cannot just continue to waste innocent lives due to the negligence of a few. We need to put things right in this country. Enough of this unnecessary wastage of precious and innocent lives,” the lawmaker who represents Lagos Island Constituency 2 in the Assembly said.
