LCDA To Establish IT Centre For Youths
As a way of securing a brighter and meaningful future for its youths, the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has said that it will soon establish an Information Technology centre for them as well as sponsor 200 youths to two vocational centres to acquire skills necessary for particular jobs.
The council chairman, Kehinde Bamigbetan, disclosed this at the inauguration of newly elected executives of National Youth Council Of Nigeria, Ejigbo Local chapter at the council secretariat recently.
Bamigbetan stated that the IT centre will be established before the expiration of his tenure and it will open opportunities for the youths as they will be able to develop their skills on the use of computers to access, analyse and store information.
The council boss who was decorated as grand patron of the youth council at the occasion by the chairman of Lagos chapter of the council, Aliyu Jimoh, thanked the body for considering him worthy of the position of grand patron and submitted that it will spur him to double his commitment towards youths development in the area.
Bamigbetan advised the new executives of the youth council to serve as role models to other youths in the area by mobilising and engage them in meaningful activities that will contribute to their well-being and future.
He assured them that his administration would continue to create opportunities for youths to enable them become successful in life.
He added that since the inception of his administration in 2008, he has been working towards the development of Ejigbo youths, citing programmes like provision of free uniform, free meal, desks and benches,sick bays, notebooks and other learning materials in public primary schools as some of his contribution to the well-being of the youths in the council area.
The council chairman said: “Our government has also given out free GCE and JAMB forms to over a thousand youths since 2008 and in June this year and another 200 youths will benefit from our free GCE programme”.
Delivering his inaugural address after receiving his certificate of office from Bamigbetan, the chairman of Ejigbo Youth Council, Comrade Fashola Olawale Bamidele, promised to sensitise the youths of the council area and engage them in activities that will guarantee a better future for them.
He added that the council chairman has been a major source of inspiration to youths of the local government and appealed to him to continue to support them.
