Police Inspector Disappears In Transit
The police at Maroko Division, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, are still making frantic efforts to unravel the circumstances behind the mysterious disappearance of an Inspector of Police, Christopher Okwubor, attached to the division while on his way home after work on 25 April, 2012.
Since then, the man has not been seen by his colleagues and relatives.
Though details of the incident were still sketchy at press time, a police source attached to the division who spoke with P.M.NEWS on condition of anonymity confirmed the development.
He said that the cop who resided at Gowon Estate Police Barracks in Egbeda, Akowonjo area of the state and usually rode on a motorcycle to and from work on daily basis closed from work on the fateful day and went home.
But when he did not report for work after some days, they called his mobile telephone, but it was switched off.
They then called the immediate brother to the cop to inquire about him, but he was said to have told them that the family had also become worried that he had not come home for some days thinking that he was on a special duty in his office and that his phone line had been switched off since that time.
Following the unpleasant information from both sides according to the source, the police at Maroko swung into action and reported the matter to the Lagos State Command, Ikeja, Lagos.
They also embarked on a search mission of the cop by visiting all the hospitals in Lagos State to know if he was involved in an accident, but all to no avail till date.
“We are still searching for him,” he stated.
When P.M.NEWS called the missing inspector’s younger brother, Infeanyi Okwubor, for comment over the matter, he confirmed it and stated that they have been searching for their brother since April when he left home for work at Lekki with his motorcycle and that all efforts to find him have so far proved futile.
“Though we have reported the matter to the Lagos State Police Command for help, we are still appealing to kind-hearted members of the public who may have information about his whereabouts to please call 08077329318 or the nearest police station,” he said.
