Table Tennis Now Popular In Lagos

Technical Director of Lagos State Table Tennis Association, LSTTA, John Peters has said that the increasing number of entries in the ongoing league indicates that the game is gaining more attention in the state.

The league, which is holding at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba and sponsored by Oniru Royal Family, enters Week 03 this week with at least 20 teams jostling for the top prize.

Peters said that with additional four teams taking part in the league from this week, it shows that table tennis clubs have seen the significance of the league in the development of their players.

“There is no doubt that with this league, our players will get more playing time to showcase their talent in table tennis and in the long run, it would put these players in good form to rub shoulders with their counterparts outside the country. I could not but thank the sponsors, Oniru Royal Family for bankrolling the tournament and I hope others will come and identify with the game,” Peters said.

Speaking on the benefit of the league to her game, Captain of the Union Bank women’s Team A, Fatimo Bello, said: “I am using the championship to prepare for the National Sports Festival to be hosted by Lagos in November and I am confident that I will win gold medal.”
