New Lagos chief Judge takes oath Friday

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State will on June 14, swear-in Justice Ayotunde Phillips as the new Chief Judge of the state.

A circular issued by the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Judiciary, Mrs Grace Alo, in Ikeja on Monday gave the indication.

The 63-year-old judge will be sworn-in as the 14th Chief Judge of Lagos state. Phillips succeeds Justice Inumidun Akande who retired on June 7, after attaining the statutory retirement age of 65 and would be the fourth woman to serve in that capacity.

She was born on July 26, 1949 and joined the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in 1989.

Phillips was appointed a judge on Feb. 18, 1994 and was cleared by the Lagos State House of Assembly for the position of Chief Judge on June 7. (NAN)
