‘Address Insecurity Now’

Two activists, Comrade Baba Omojola, leader of the June 12 Coalition of Democratic Formations and Dr. Frederick Fasehun, founder of the Oodua People’s Congress have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to rise to the occasion by effectively addressing the present state of insecurity and save the country from imminent disintegration.

They made the call at the 19th anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election held at Blueroof, Hall of LTV8, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

Baba Omojola pointed out that for Nigeria to remain one and make any meaningful progress , “the present crippling state of insecurity in the country must be holistically addressed and efforts must be made to achieve harmony among Nigeria’s ethnic groups.”

He said the controversial issue of resource control must be revisited and recommendations of Pro National Conference Organisation ,PRONACO, towards the restructuring of Nigeria should be examined.

On his own part, Dr. Fasehun unequivocally declared: “Nigeria is not running a democracy. True democracy must be able to provide food, shelter, security, education and employment for the people. Any democracy without all these is a sham.”

He stressed further that lack of social security and justice in the country bred the Boko Haram menace.

The guest lecturer at the event, Professor Adigun Agbaje also agreed that there was no democracy yet in the country but Kakistocracy (government by the worst).

“For a long time, we’ve not had democrats as leaders. We’ve all along been ruled by kakistocrats,” he declared.

He maintained that to institute democracy in Nigeria it was necessary to convene a sovereign national conference which, according to him, would engender a new constitution that woud allow emergence of democrats for the leadership of the country.
