Nigerian House passes vote of confidence in Speaker

Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives has gotten the overwhelming endorsement of his colleagues.

At the emergency plenary session today in Abuja, summoned to discuss the smouldering bribery scandal involving Lawan Farouk and members of the adhoc committee on oil subsidy, a member from Edo state, moved a motion, asking other members to pass a vote on confidence on the House leadership, most especially the speaker.

Grinning in his high seat, Tambuwal asked that the motion be seconded.

The hurriedly re-couched motion was then seconded by a female member from Anambra state.

An overwhelming ayes sealed it. There was no whimper of dissension.
