Expect Nigeria’s Best From Calabar Meet — AFN

Spokesperson of Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Duro Ikhazuagbe, has disclosed that the 66th Mobil Track and Field Championship beginning in Calabar, Cross River State tomorrow, will produce the athletes that can win medals for the country at the Olympics.

He said the AFN is leaving nothing to chance to ensure that only the best athletes are selected to represent the country at the London Games.

He also disclosed that medal hopeful and Firstbank ambassador, Blessing Okagbare breezed into the country on Saturday.

Ikhazuagbe, however, hinted that he is yet to meet with any of the athletes, but assured that athletics fans will watch Nigeria’s best runners in Calabar between Tuesday 19 June through Thursday, 21 of the same month.

The Mobil Track and Field Championship, which gets underway at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, will be used to select athletes that would represent Nigeria at the London 2012 Olympics, which begins next month.

Amongst the top athletes competing are Tosin Oke, Damola Osayemi and Ajose Odumosu.
