Lagos Island LG To Implement Child Rights Bill

Lagos Island Local Government Area, Lagos, southwest, Nigeria, has said it would observed all  the provisions of the Child Rights’ Bill presently before with the National Assembly immediately it becomes a law.

Chairman of the council, Mr. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, stated this on Friday when his council hosted school children in the area to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration.

The  programme was organised by  the council and Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area in conjunction with the National Council for Arts and Culture, Lagos Island zone, with the theme “Enhancing charity towards children and mother,”

The council chairman said any nation that does not give due consideration to children is not caring for its future.

Sanni said even when the bill is still waiting to be passed, his local government has been ensuring that the rights of the children and that of their mothers are protected and observed.

According to him: “our administration in Lagos Island have always placed high premium on issues relating to children and mother. It is also a fact that where matters relating to their welfare come up, we have been eager to partake and make positive and enduring contribution.

“Our commitment to the plight of children is evident in several of our visionary programmes especially in the spheres of education both at level of provision of free school, learning materials and rehabilitation and construction of infrastructure.

“We have also demonstrated our commitment to improving the care for children and mothers especially in health sphere by upgrading several primary health centres and construction of new health facilities with modern day equipment and staff to complement.”
