Organisers of this year’s MTN Lagos Street Soccer have disclosed that they are expecting at least 1,000 entries for the championship which begins next month across the state.
P.M.Sports gathered that over 300 participants have so far registered for Season 5 of the tourney with more entries expected in the coming weeks.
Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Wahid Oshodi called on more streets in Lagos to come out to register, adding that the more participants the more the glamour that will be added to the grassroots soccer tournament.
“With the numbers of entries we received now, I hope we will get up to 1,000 entries before the kick off date next month. We are doing this, because we want this year’s edition to surpass the previous ones,” he said.
He maintained that the only way this year’s tourney can be a memorable one is to allow more entries. He assured the title sponsor, MTN Communications that the Local Organising Committee, LOC, will leave nothing to chance to get more entries before this month end.
He lauded MTN for its commitment to grassroots sports development as well as youth empowerment through the yearly tournament
The commissioner also commended the councils’ chairmen for their unflinching support in the past four seasons.
