The Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has challenged Nigerian companies to obtain the International Standard Organisation, ISO, certificate for their products. It will also enable them to launch into the global market to achieve sustainable development and optimal balance between economic progress and social benefits.

The Director General, SON, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, gave this challenge during the  presentation of NIS ISO 9001:2008 certificate to Marine Platforms Limited in Victoria Island, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

“This is a giant stride in the pursuit of excellence to provide quality products to consumers. The NIS ISO 9001: 2008 quality management system approach provides a globally recognised and acceptable solution to the challenges associated with quality management.”

“Marine Platforms Ltd will have to note that this journey to excellence does not have an end as quality is a moving target. Our challenge to you today is to keep the system healthy and up to date in order to reap the full benefit of ISO 9001: 2008 approach.

“These systems having been certified will be placed on six months surveillance audits to ensure continuing stability and effectiveness of the implementation of the quality management system,” he said.

“In the cause of the audit, where non-conformances are observed and are effectively corrected within specified time frame, the system will retain the certificate. However, the certificate will be withdrawn if the structures in place for certification break down and necessary corrective actions are not taken on observed non-conformances,” he added.

The Chief Executive Officer Marine Platform Limited, Mr. Taofik Adegbite, stated that his organisation went through rigorous examination process of SON before getting the certificate, adding that various training programmes had been held for employees of the company to ensure that they key into the processes and procedures embedded in the international standards.

“Apart from our company’s image enhancement, the ISO certification will also serve as a competitive edge in the marketing of our brands both within and outside the country.

“Improvement of our quality management system is an endless activity in the company. We strive for higher levels of attainment at all times in order to ensure consistent high quality products through well managed processes,” he stated.
