Youths Urged To Shun Cultism, Drugs
Chairman, Iba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Princess Ramota Adeyeri-Oseni has advised children and youths to shun wayward activities like cultism, vandalism, drug abuse and sexual promiscuity.
Addressing the children and youths as part of activities marking this year’s Children and Youth Day celebration, Adeyeri-Oseni reminded them to appreciate the efforts of the council area as well as that of the Lagos State government to improve their welfare adding, “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
Because of the importance Iba LCDA attached to the education of children and youths, Adeyeri- Oseni highlighted some of the achievements of the council area in education.
These includes, the construction and repair of dilapidated classrooms in primary schools. Model classrooms were built in many schools while they were also provided with facilities such as toilets, sick bay, other conveniences and administrative offices. One of the beneficiaries was Ije-Ododo Primary School while the reconstruction of L.A Primary School, Ijagemo was expected to commence very soon.
In addition, the council chairman said the LCDA has secured a piece of land for the building of additional ultra-modern secondary school at Iba town. She added that as soon as they get the nod of the state government, contractors will move into the site.
As part of her promises, Adeyeri-Oseni disclosed that the first phase of 500 desks and benches have been distributed to primary schools in the council area. In few weeks, she added that 3,000 pupils in primary schools will receive free uniforms.
Hitherto, the Iba LCDA chairman announced that extra mural coaching classes were organised for students who are mostly youths who sat for examinations such as GCE, NECO and JAMB.
At the Estate Primary School, Iba and FOA primary school, II, Okoko, 650 students benefited from the council’s gesture.
She stated that soonest, Iba LCDA will assist indigent students by procuring GCE forms for them free of charge in order to assist them actualize their educational dreams.
