3SC Hold Sunshine In Crunchy NPL Tie

An explosive encounter between Sunshine Stars of Akure and Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC of Ibadan, ended in a barren draw Wednesday evening in one of the midweek matches of the Nigeria Premier League, NPL.
Although the fans of Sunshine Stars were left disappointed with the outcome of the match, as the vociferous fans of the Oluyole Warriros from Ibadan, could not but celebrate the draw as if their darling team won the encounter.
The game started with the Ondo State-sponsored team pressing hard to catch 3SC off guard and get an early goal.
Begging scoring chances were lost in the process, with the most astonished one from their prolific striker Ajani Ibrahim, whose 22nd minute header failed to hit target.
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel of 3SC was the match hero, as his superb saves made it possible for his team to share the points with the sojourned-team in Ijebu Ode.
The interesting match ended with some ugly scenes, which both teams will not forget in a hurry, as the centre referee gave out three red cards in the course of the tie.
3SC’s Gabriel Adikwu and Ado Ali of Sunshine were sent off in the first half for unsportsmanlike behavior, while Asuquo Philip of 3SC was also sent off in the second half for elbowing a player of the host team.
“Though, I won’t want to comment on the decision of the referee for the three red cards, I think the red card given to Asuquo was justified,” said Coach Gbenga Ogunbote of Sunshine.
He, however, described the home draw as an unfortunate setback for his team’s bid to finish the league on a high.
Coach of 3SC, Busari commended his team for playing a defensive game.
“Our defensive strategy worked out and I’m glad with this draw in an away match of this magnitude,” he said.
