The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has warned against plans by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to rig the 14 July governorship election in Edo State, southsouth Nigeria, saying that the move will be resisted.

In a press statement signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party said that their candidate, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, is highly favoured to win the polls and no attempt by the PDP will prevent his re-election.

“We are saddened by reports of massive subterranean moves by the agents of darkness to subvert the mandate of the Edo electorate during the July election. We are aware of the many plots and intrigues hatched by these spent forces to steal Oshiomhole’s highly anticipated and probable victory.

“While we warn that such would not be allowed to happen, we alert the good people of Edo State to keep their eyes wide open for such nefarious efforts which these forces have repeatedly brought to bear on the Nigerian political scene since 1999.

“We therefore urge every Edolite to stand firm and ensure his votes are not stolen in the coming election for it is a vote to decide whether the state can continue its present speedy recovery or whether it will relapse back to the hands of the predators,” the ACN said.

The party said that while Oshiomhole’s achievements are glaring, PDP’s 13 years in power at the Federal levl are a bad reminder of where not to return.
