Metu wins again

Nigeria’s fastest man, Obinna Metu of the Prison Service, Thursday evening at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State, claimed the Men’s 200m title of Nigeria’s Olympic Trials in a time of 20:91secs.

Metu, who yesterday clinched the 100m title in a time of 10.11secs, showed he is the King of Nigeria’s tracks at the moment, as he outpaced other athletes right from the starting block.Noah Akwu, a US-based athlete came second in a time of 20:98secs, while Elvis Ngale finished third in a time of 21:28secs.

The fourth position went to Ayobami Oyeniyi, who crossed the finish line in a time of 21:41secs.While he was still gasping for breath, Metu attributed his current form to hard work and prayers.He said: “After seeing the star-studded line up…, I told myself that there was no going back because I have no excuses to lose the gold medal. So, I knew I had to put in my best and I’m glad I did today”.

In the other races concluded this evening, America-based Ajoke Odumosu, retained the Women’s 400m Hurdles in a time of 55:08secs. Adekoya Kemi came second in a time of 57:32secs, while Blessing Njoku finished third in a time of 58:03secs.Odumosu of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, was excited retaining the title. She said this year’s Athletics Trials was competitive, but appreciates God for giving her the stamina to hold on to the title.
