Dolphins, Plateau Clash In Federation Cup

As the 2012 Federation Cup Round of 60 hold from Monday, Nigeria Premier League, NPL champions, Dolphins of Port Harcourt have been handed a tough draw against Plateau United of Jos.

Both sides clash on Tuesday, 26 June at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium in Katsina-Ala, Benue State.

The clash between Dolphins and Plateau United is a match to look forward to, and Coach Stanley Eguma and his boys from the Garden City must prepare for the crunchy encounter.

Another big game slated for Tuesday is between two-time Cup winners, El-Kanemi Warriors and struggling Premier League new boys, Rising Stars at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.

Before these top games, 18 matches will take place at 15 centres across the nation on Monday, 26 June.

Cup holders, Heartland of Owerri and last season’s finalists, Enyimba of Aba have been drawn bye for the preliminary round of the nation’s oldest football competition. The Federation Cup, formerly known as the National FA Cup, will reach the round of 32 after next week’s matches.

Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation, NFF’s major partner and Federation Cup lead sponsor, Globacom has called on all the teams to put in their best as the competition gathers momentum.

The company in a press statement issued in Lagos on Thursday, exhorted the teams to rekindle the flame of the old Challenge Cup and bring back the good memories of the past when healthy rivalry existed between teams like Rangers of Enugu, 3SC of Ibadan, defunct Bendel Insurance (now Edo Insurance), Stationery Stores of Lagos, Raccah Rovers of Kano, Abiola Babes of Abeokuta, Mighty Jets of Jos and Leventis United of Ibadan among others.
