GOS Donates N50m ICT Centre, Library To LCDA
The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, GOS, has handed over a N50 million of modern library and Information and Communication Technology, ICT, centre to the management of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Centre, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
GOS who spoke at the commissioning of the library/ICT centre at Meiran Model College, as part of his constituency project, stated that the need to put in place a durable legacy for youths and trained them in modern information and communication technology were some of the reasons the project was constructed.
The senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, harped on the importance of education, describing it as the bedrock of any country’s development and growth.
“We need to invest in the education of our children and develop the youth especially in modern ICT and this project is one way we are contributing our quota to the development of education in this state,” he said.
He stated that the Meiran Library project was just one of the 14 he would delivered to the people of the Lagos West Senatorial District, noting further that he has also initiated the construction and equipment of primary healthcare centres.
“This is just the beginning as we are set to deliver 13 similar projects in this senatorial district,” he said.
The library was completed with computers and books with toilets and generator. Its estimated value was put at N50 million. A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimoso Constituency 1, Bisi Yusuf, commended Senator Solomon for the project which he noted will contribute in no small way to the development and growth as well as enhance reading culture among students and youths in the community.
“We are proud of you, Senator Solomon and I want to say that we are impressed with your intelligent contributions to discussions and debates on the floor of the Senate. You have also displayed such intelligence and sense of purpose with this project and I want to specially express the appreciation of the people of this community to you,” said Yusuf, who later donated 1,000 textbooks to the library.
The Principal of Lagos Senior Model College, Mr. Sunday Adekanye, expressed appreciation to the Senate Minority Whip for the project, describing it as not only a positive step towards improving education in the state but also reviving reading culture among students and youths.
