Lagos ‘ll Dust Them At Sports Festival
As the National Sports Festival is getting nearer, a boxing coach at Team Lagos camp, Waidi Sobolaje, has revealed that Lagos State has enough boxers, who are capable of achieving astonishing feats at the coming games billed to hold in the state later in the year.
In a chat with Boxing In Focus, Sobolaje said that Lagos State has many talented pugilists, who can surpass its achievements at the Garden City Games.
“I am convinced that the boxers from Lagos State will give very good account of themselves at the coming games. Lagos State has good and talented boxers, who will do the state proud and win more medals than it won in Port Harcourt.” said Sobolaje.
He said: “Lagos State is the home of boxing in Nigeria and that the boxers in camp are working very hard to make the final team. Apart from that, the entire coaching crew are working round the clock in order to selecting the best among these boxers to represent the state at the games.”
Sobolaje, also a former boxer, said that the spirit in camp is high, adding that the boxers are responding positively to training in order to qualify to represent the state.
“The camp is really bubbling with life and there is a kind of healthy rivalry among the boxers as they are all working hard to be in the team. The boxers are making frantic efforts to make positive impression on the coaching crew.
“There are 40 boxers in the open camp at the moment and 28 of them are men, while the rest are women. The number will be reduced to about 30 by the time they go into closed-camping before we now select the best among them to represent the state,” concluded Sobolaje.
