Lagos Honours 526 Public Servants

The Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa in Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, was agog last week as the state government honoured 526 public servants who have served the state for over 30 years with Long Service Merit Award.

Those who got the awards comprise one permanent secretary, directors and other officers, which cut across different cadres and ministries in the state civil service.

At the event to commemorate the 2012 Public Service Week in Lagos, Head of Service, HOS, Mr. Adesegun Ogunlewe, said the award was intended to recognise and reward loyalty and commitment on the part of public servants in the state.

He said it was one of the many ways, which the state government sought to further motivate the recipients having served the state diligently for a minimum period of 30 years.

Ogunlewe urged public servants in the state to continue to display high sense of responsibility, greater commitment to duty and demonstrate unalloyed loyalty to the state government.

He assured that government would continue to create the conducive environment for public servants to reach the highest level in their career.

The HOS disclosed that about 2,331 public servants had been rewarded with the Long Service Merit Award since it was instituted in 2006 by the state government.
