Bob Osim Slams Eagles

By Adebobola Alawode

Former international turned grassroots football coach, Bob Osim has taken a swipe at the current members of the Super Eagles, saying they are not committed with the way they play for the nation.

The former Enyimba International of Aba player told P.M.Sports at the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar, Cross River State recently that after watching the team play, he was disturbed that the fire and hunger that existed in the team were absent.

Osim, who once played for Rangers International lamented the situation, where the Super Eagles will be struggling with some unknown teams that they are suppose to have an easy ride over on a good day, but have to struggle to win or draw.

He opined that if the fortunes of the current squad must change for good, the technical crew led by former skipper of the team, Stephen Keshi must always invite players who play on a regular basis and are also hungry to win laurels. “Gone are the days, when the Super Eagles are to play we would already be counting the number of goals that they were going to be scores but now we can’t even boast that we would defeat some teams in Africa, something has to be done to correct the dwindling fortunes of the team”.

He advised the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to also do away with the win at all cost idea and should concentrate more on developmental football, “The NFF will hire a coach and fire him, when the results are not coming, it is not good for the development of football in the country, there should be a scouting department, where promising stars can be discovered except that is done we would continue to return to the ‘drawing board”.

Meanwhile former goalkeeper trainer of the team and ex-international, Alloy Agu has advised the technical crew not to lose sleep over the performance of the team so far but they should remain focused.

He noted that if the coaches bother themselves with what people are saying that they may not make headway in the job that they have been hired to do,

“The coaches should not listen to what people say but they should get down to work and what they are paid to do, side talks  in most occasions may lead to distraction”.
