Members of a vigilance group in Agege, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, led by their deputy commander, Mr. Olugbade Babatunde, have arrested a 27-year-old aluminium fabricator for burglary.
The suspect, according to the vigilance group leader, is a native of Otun in Ekiti State.
Speaking with CrimeWatch, Olugbade said the Baba Balogun of Ipajaland invited him and his men to come and arrest a suspect, adding that when they got to his house at 21 Akiola Street, they met the suspect was ransacking the room.
The vigilance group arrested and brought him to the police.
The suspect begged the police and members of the vigilance group to set him free, promising to turn a new leaf.
When the police asked him how long he had been burgling people’s houses, he said it was his first time, adding that he does not know what came over him.
“Officer, please, forgive me. I don’t steal and I don’t know what happened to me today. I did not go there to steal, I just entered the house. I don’t know what I was looking for.
“Please help me. I promise, in my life I will never try this kind of thing again,” the suspect pleaded.
